Plot 28 Planning and Progress
Different vegetable crops we grow have there own nutrient needs from the soil.
Growing the same crop in the same plot every year would soon use up their nutrients.
The resultant would be declining crop yields over the years.
Crop rotation is the favourPlot 1 Progressed sollution as it maintains a balance in
the nutrient demand on the soil so that no one particular set is exhausted. Certain
crops can actually provide benefits to the soil for one or other of the crop groups.
The roots of peas and beans fix nitrogen in the soil. Nitrogen is required for leaf
growth hence brassicas should be planted on the site of last years peas and beans.
