Welcome to my website where I talk about my plot and take a photographic view of other plots on the  Dalgety Bay Horticultural Society allotments. It is getting in to winter now so it is a time to tidy up and prepare the ground for the spring growing period. I also have a link below to a country wine making site that I also raised for one of my retirement hobbies.

What is an Allotment?

The allotment is where we go to escape,

to keep ourselves and our veg. in shape.

A perfect excuse from the household chores,

and to help with the budget, a genuine cause.

To give to the needy and share amongst friends,

waving the flag for organic trends.

With wire mesh and netting and old CD's,

to ward off invaders a flash in the breeze.

Studiously checking the leaves for bugs,

Scattering egg shells and bait for the bugs.

Lying exposed to theft by night.

produce to pilfer, a rabbits delight.

Allotment Dream

Rain every night,a good steady fall.

Warm sun all day and no wind at all.

Earth, light and soft and easy to seed

No couch grass, not even a weed.

All seeds germinate, the carrots no gap

Just simple thinning,I was a happy chap

Broad beans grew well with no sign of blackfly

Runners went mad and reached for the sky

Pigeons found other brassica's to munch

Sparrows did not want my peas for lunch

No slugs seen, there was not a snail

Accross the ground no silvery trail.

Molluscs and birds left strawberries alone

Red and ripe, but firm they had grown

With currants and gooseberries the bushes were bowed

The size of rasps made me really proud

Salad crops in abundance grew

Parsnips and carrots were long straight and true.

Potatoes were large, the best I have seen,

No scabs or holes, soil fell away clean.

Harvesting produce, the weather just right,

Not one insect wanted to bite.

Suddenly the sound of wind and rain,

I had fallen asleep in the shed again.
